The ATP—together with players, tournaments and fans—have supported UNICEF through various communications and fundraising initiatives since 2005.
Roger Federer
ATP's #1 ranked player, Roger Federer, was appointed a UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador in April 2006. Shortly thereafter, the Feder-bear Beanie Baby® launched, and in the first year alone, global sales of the Feder-bear' Beanie Baby® totaled over $125,000 on behalf of Federer and the ATP for UNICEF.
In December 2006, on his first field visit as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Federer traveled to Cuddalore, India to mark the two-year anniversary of the Indian Ocean tsunami. Roger saw first hand UNICEF supported tsunami recovery initiatives including an early childhood center and also met with children in the Cuddalore Orphanage.
Emergency Relief
Following the Indian Ocean tsunami, at the Pacific Life Open held in Indian Wells in March 2005, ten of the world's top male tennis players participated in the ACE Rally for Relief, raising over $40,000 for UNICEF's relief efforts in countries affected in the region. In addition several players and tournaments held fund raisers and/or made contributions to UNICEF.
