Marriott's Check Out for Children: Making lifesaving impact
For over 30 years, Marriott has mobilised to support UNICEF’s work to help children survive and thrive around the world. Since 1995, Check Out for Children has helped raise over $51 million and supported UNICEF in reaching more than 4.5 million children in 40+ countries.
In 2023, UNICEF relaunched and expanded the programme in partnership with Marriott International to accelerate progress for children and their families.
Guests at over 550+ participating Marriott International properties across the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions are invited to add $1 for each night of their stay – which equals lifesaving impact for those who need it most.
Since the relaunch, Check Out for Children has raised over $500,000 and counting. Donations support UNICEF’s Every Child Fund, which powers our flexible funding, and is the most effective way to save and improve the lives of children.
UNICEF’s 2023 Core Resources Annual Report evaluated that globally:
- 1.2 billion children live in multidimensional poverty;
- nearly 600 million children do not meet minimum reading standards;
- 35 million children suffer from wasting - a condition in children where they are too thin for their height, and is the most visible and life-threatening form of malnutrition;
- and a quarter of the world’s children live in or have fled from conflict zones.
Check Out for Children’s support of UNICEF’s work allows UNICEF to respond quickly to crises, anticipate future risks, and build resilience by allocating funds where there is the greatest need for children. Thanks to flexible funding, UNICEF can work in interconnected ways, addressing children’s holistic needs for good health, education, and protection throughout their childhood and adolescence, achieving systemic and long-term change.
