NEW YORK (June 9, 2016) – The U.S. Fund for UNICEF today announced the appointment of Carol Hamilton, Andrew Hohns and Elizabeth Smith to the national Board of Directors. Their appointment, effective as of April 21, expands the board to 25 members.

“We are delighted to welcome Carol Hamilton, Andrew Hohns and Liz Smith as the newest additions to our National Board of Directors,” said Caryl M. Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. “Carol, Andrew and Liz bring tremendous operational and financial expertise to the table, while sharing a deep commitment to our mission to put Children First. We look forward to their leadership and to the unique perspectives they will provide as we continue our work to save and improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children.”

Carol Hamilton, who previously served on the U.S. Fund for UNICEF New York Regional Board, is the Group President of L’Oréal Luxe USA. Since joining the French cosmetics giant in 1984, she has helped build its luxury businesses on both sides of the Atlantic and spearheaded its support of women’s and children’s wellness and empowerment programs, including the Giorgio Armani Acqua for Life partnership with UNICEF and the L’Oréal Paris partnership with the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Hamilton serves on the Board of Governors of Cosmetic Executive Women, the Board of The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, The Harvard Kennedy School Women’s Leadership Board and the FIT CFMM (Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management) Industry Advisory Board. She has an undergraduate degree from Vassar College.

Andrew Hohns, PhD, is a Managing Director at Mariner Investment Group and the Lead Portfolio Manager for funds focused on bank capital optimization and infrastructure debt. Prior to joining Mariner, Dr. Hohns was a Managing Director at Institutional Financial Markets, Inc., focused on securitization strategies for asset backed loans, bank capital, and municipal debt. In 2008, Institutional Investor named Dr. Hohns as a member of its “20 Rising Stars of Fixed Income.” Dr. Hohns holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a Masters in Liberal Arts from the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in Applied Economics and Managerial Sciences from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hohns is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business and serves as Chairman for USA250, a non-profit coordinating America's Semiquincentennial celebration, in 2026.

Elizabeth Smith is the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Bloomin' Brands, whose portfolio of casual and fine dining brands include Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill and Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. Smith has almost 30 years’ experience growing brands in consumer-facing industries. Prior to joining Bloomin’ Brands, she was President of Avon Products, Inc. and worked in several roles at Kraft Foods, Inc., where she oversaw a total of $6 billion in sales. She serves on the Board of Directors for Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Inc., Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of America and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
