Inspired Mothers: Ne Tangara and Oumou Diarra in Mali

Mother’s Day is coming up, and we at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF wanted to share with you some stories from mothers around the world. These are mothers who do not want a fancy gift or dinner in a restaurant this Mother’s Day. They just want to be able to nourish and take care of their children. To begin with, here are two short testimonials from Mali.
UNICEF ready-to-use therapeutic paste Plumpy’nut is making a difference for vulnerable children suffering from malnutrition in Mali. Below are testimonials from mothers who have benefitted from UNICEF support.

"When I came to the health center my baby was sick. She had a lot of diarrhea and no appetite . . . But she got better, after six weeks she has gained 1.5 kilos. I am still breastfeeding her and she’s eating two packs of Plumpy’nut every day. You can see how lively and smiling she is, running around with lots of energy. I am so happy." This photo of Ne Tangara was taken in the village of Konio, in central Mali’s Mopti region.

"I walked here from my village, it’s more than a mile away. I have a problem with my boy, he isn’t growing properly. All my four children had the same problem. The oldest is 10 now and he is fine, so are the rest. I didn’t have enough breastmilk when Tongome was born and they gave me CSB (enriched corn soya blend flour) at the health center to help me. Tongome has been taking Plumpy’nut. He eats 1 and a half packets every day. I’m happy to see him improving. There’s a big difference now in his size and height.” This photo of Tongome and his mother Oumou Diarra was taken at the community health center of the village Konio, in central Mali’s Mopti region. If you would like to buy a Mother’s Day present that really makes a difference, and help mothers like Ne Tangara and Oumou Diarra nourish their children, you can buy Ready to Eat Therapeutic Food, also known as Plumpy’nut, from UNICEF’s full range of Inspired Gifts.
