An earthquake centered off the coast of northeastern Japan has triggered fresh tsunami concerns, less than a month after the devastating March 11 disaster that wiped communities off the map.

The epicenter of Thursday's 7.4-magnitude quake is reported to be just 41 miles off the coast of Miyagi prefecture, where UNICEF is delivering humanitarian relief in response to the March disasters. Miyagi is now under tsunami warning.

In Miyagi, UNICEF is delivering hygiene kits (including diapers and hygiene wipes), clothing, drinking water, and other basic supplies for children and their families affected by the March disasters. UNICEF is also providing locally-prepared School-in-a-Box kits, along with desks, chairs and school bags for kids, and establishing child-friendly spaces to aid children's recovery and help restore a sense of normalcy.

In nearby Iwate prefecture, UNICEF is also delivering basic supplies, establishing child-friendly spaces with recreation and early childhood development kits, and introducing a program to help vulnerable families purchase school supplies.
