Teaching Technology: Empowering Girls to Change the World

Around the globe, 600 million adolescent girls are preparing to enter a world of work that is being transformed by innovation and automation. Educated and skilled workers are in great demand, but roughly a quarter of young people — most of them female — are currently neither employed nor in education or training.

Transferable skills — such as self-confidence, problem-solving, teamwork and critical thinking — are critical to succeed in the rapidly changing world of work. Girls need mentors, career guidance and training to transition from school to work. Future entrepreneurs need financing and business skills.

In 2017, UNICEF, with Gucci as a founding partner, launched the Girls' Empowerment Initiative to improve the lives of adolescent girls across seven regions of the world. With the right tools and opportunities, girls will become the largest generation of female leaders, entrepreneurs and changemakers the world has ever seen.

Today's supergirls are standing up and speaking out about the innovative solutions they need, working to bridge the digital divide and empower themselves and their generation. They are shattering the glass ceiling, designing apps to break longstanding taboos and boosting their digital skills to prepare for the world of work today and tomorrow.

The Girls' Empowerment Initiative is UNICEF's commitment as part of the Generation Unlimited movement, working with and for girls to design solutions at scale to help tackle the multiple barriers they face and support them to reach their full potential.

Join us as we support the education and empowerment of girls around the world. Give them the future they deserve.
