TeachUNICEF trains today’s and tomorrow’s teachers

At TeachUNICEF, our commitment to promoting global citizenship extends beyond our New York City offices.  Recently, we have been asked to bring our thoughtful approach to global education on the road.  The result was more enlightened teachers, both at the in-service and pre-service stages of their careers. In early October, Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, hosted an International Education Week and invited TeachUNICEF to participate.  We engaged by conducting a workshop with education professors and students on the importance of global education and providing them suggestions for incorporating UNICEF resources in the classroom. Later in the month, we shared the stage with our partner Global Concern Classroom at the School of Education at DePaul University in Chicago.  Global Concern Classroom’s desire to inspire youth to become active global citizens and leaders for a better tomorrow meshed perfectly with our mission.  Together, we provided three groups of pre-service educators space to explore the challenges and rewards of teaching global competence. Finally, TeachUNICEF returned to Atlanta to conduct sessions on international mindedness for International Baccalaureate teachers attending trainings offered by the Center for the Advancement and Study of International Education (CASIE).  We facilitated the teachers designing lessons focusing on global competence in the context of the IB model.
