UNICEF Tap Project Training Weekend NYC

This year’s UNICEF Tap Project Campaign hit the ground running with a highly successful regional volunteer training weekend in New York City. On January 28th and January 29th, 2012, the NYC Tap Project City Coordinators and U.S. Fund for UNICEF Staff had the great pleasure of meeting more than 75 volunteers who travelled from near and far for the opportunity to learn more about the campaign and participate in various ways.

People from all different parts of the tri-state area - from seventh graders to seniors - spent a large portion of their weekend learning about the world water crisis and what they could do to help decrease the number of children who die each day from water-related preventable diseases all around the globe. The sheer energy and enthusiasm that emanated from the room on each day was absolutely awe-inspiring.  Not only did these wonderful volunteers come armed with knowledge about UNICEF and about the UNICEF Tap Project, they also brought with them their ideas and passions for the goals of the campaign.  Their new perspectives on how to implement the campaign in their neighborhoods, communities, and amongst their peers showed their true dedication to the cause.  As one of the six UNICEF Tap Project City Coordinators, having the opportunity to meet with the volunteers made all the late night hours of planning and preparation for the training presentations absolutely worth the effort.  Volunteers learned about UNICEF and its work, UNICEF Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs, the World Water Crisis and of course, the UNICEF Tap Project. They also learned the necessary skills needed to assist in restaurant recruitment, event hosting, fundraising, raising awareness and promoting the campaign. On behalf of all of the NYC Tap Project Volunteer City Coordinators, I would like to say thank you to everyone who attended our regional training and to everyone who will be a part of the UNICEF Tap Project.  The support you will give to this campaign will help us in our efforts to ensure that every child has the right to clean, safe drinking water all over the world. Also, if you would still like to support the campaign, register as a volunteer at UNICEFTapProject.org/volunteer.
