In 2022, UNICEF procured a record-breaking $7.383 billion in goods and services for children in 162 countries and areas, a 93 percent increase compared to pre-pandemic global procurement levels.
UNICEF transported over 244,000 metric tons of supplies to 162 countries and areas – a weight equivalent to that of 1,200 Boeing 747 aircraft — including 2.4 billion routine vaccine doses to reach 45 percent of the world’s children under 5 years of age, and 977.9 million doses for COVID-19 vaccination campaigns.
New global crises and existing protracted emergencies including those in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ukraine, Yemen, the Horn of Africa and the Sahel accounted for much of 2022's increase, with UNICEF delivering supplies worth $863.9 million to reach children living through emergencies in 140 countries and areas.
In 2022, UNICEF procured goods worth $5.555 billion, including:
- 3.4 billion vaccine doses to 108 countries
- 2.1 billion water purification tablets — enough to treat 62 billion liters of water — to 48 countries
- 38.1 million long-lasting insecticidal nets
- 162,000 education kits
- enough Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to treat around 5.1 million children suffering from severe wasting
In 2022, UNICEF procured $1.828 billion in services, an increase of 20 percent from 2021, including construction, international freight, cash and voucher assistance, local technical workforce for program support, in-country logistics and warehousing, and research, surveys, monitoring and evaluation.
