Multicultural Dinner at University of Texas School of Public Health

The Student Society for Global Health at the University of Texas School of Public Health hosts Annual Multicultural Dinner recognizing "Challenges to Immunizing Populations."

In March 2017, the Student Society for Global Health and the Global Health Concentration at University of Texas School of Public Health hosted their Annual Multicultural Dinner. Houston Community Engagement Fellow, Katherine Porter, was invited to moderate a panel of experts on the “Challenges of Immunizing Populations.” The dinner featured cuisine from around the world and riveting conversation regarding the barriers to vaccinating against preventable diseases.  Kathi identified ways students, faculty and guests could support immunization efforts through education and advocacy with UNICEF USA. She spoke on the current status of polio and identified three countries where it has not yet been eradicated. “The cost and impact of doing nothing is far too great and tragic when we realize that the suffering of polio can be prevented through simple and routine vaccinations,” she told the audience of public health practitioners.

UNICEF is the largest buyer of vaccines, and provides immunizations to almost half of all children globally. Interested in learning what you can do to stop children from suffering from preventable diseases? Find more information here
