In the hours after a major earthquake violently shook Haiti on August 14, 2021, killing more than 2,200 and injuring at least 12,000, Haiti's young U-Reporters took to the streets to document events in real time with their cellphones and assist in rescue efforts.

"I am in the market area. I was helping the injured, bringing out the dead," UNICEF U-Reporter Wadlet Merant says in the video below, recorded in Haiti's Grand'Anse Department not long after the quake hit. "Pestel is completely destroyed. Lots of tears."

UNICEF staff and volunteers are on the ground in Haiti, working with partners to deliver urgently needed supplies including medicine, safe water, hygiene and sanitation material and tarpaulins, even as flooding and mudslides hamper relief efforts.

The people of Haiti need help now. Despite security and logistical challenges, UNICEF will continue providing emergency assistance to vulnerable children and families. Please donate.
